Hervey Bay A Great place for Fishing

Fishing is one of Hervey bays great attractions and one of its great strengths is diversity.
You can beach fish or rock fish on Fraser Island, go deep sea or continental shelf fishing, fish the estuaries and creeks on the inside of the island or any of the many creeks and rivers, on the mainland side of the Great Sandy Strait, fish the strait itself, ply the deep and shallow reefs and ledges in the bay, shore fish or fish from the pier of jetties or even go fresh water fishing at Lenthall's dam.

Most fishing in the bay is undertaken by amateur fisherman with their own gear but visitors or locals wanting something different are also catered for by a range of charter vessel trips.

The variety of fish is also spectacular, ranging in size from garfish to marlin and including some of the best eating fish around such as red emperor, barramundi, mangrove jack, whiting, bream and many others.

Hervey Bay is also a delicately balanced eco-system so take only what you need, eat everything you take and make sure you adhere to size and bag limits and seasonal closures.

Your best source of advice if you are not sure is bait and tackle shops, so while you are getting some new gear for the outing over just stocking up on bait ask the blokes who know.
They are also a great source of local knowledge of where to catch what when and how to target it.
